Product Description
Gold derivative in clinical use as an anti-arthritic. Acts as an inhibitor of several leukocyte activation pathways. Inhibits release of inflammatory mediators from human macrophages, pulmonary mast cell and basophils. Also inhibits human neutrophil 5-lipoxygenase. Efficient inducer of mitochondrial membrane permeability transition pore in the presence of calcium ions, potentially referable to its inhibition of mitochondrial thioredoxin reductase.

General Information
The myeloid differentiation antigen CD14 acts as the major receptor for bacterial LPS. The dominant form of the recombinant wildtype CD14 ist the 50kDa protein.
The CD14 glycoprotein, gp 55, is present on most monocytic and macrophage like cell types: monocytes, macrophages, Kupffer cells, pleural phagocytic cells and dendritic reticular cells. CD14 is also observed on granulocytes and activated or transformed B-cells. Furthermore it is present in a soluble form in mouse serum, urine and other body fluids.

Pathophysiological role of Toll-like receptor 5 engagement by bacterial flagellin in colonic inflammation: S.H. Rhee, et al.; PNAS 102, 13610 (2005) Abstract
General Information
Motile bacteria produce flagella, filaments composed mainly of the structural subunit flagellin. Flagellins are highly conserved molecules among both gram negative and gram positive bacteria, especially in 170 N-terminal and 100 C-terminal amino acids. In mammalian cells, Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5) senses various flagellins resulting in activation of innate and adaptive immunity. The phase 1 flagellin FliC from Salmonella typhimurium (serotype H 'I'), a protein of 494 amino acids, upregulates production of chemokines and antimicrobial compounds in human epithelial cells and monocytes and induces maturation of dendritic cells.
