General Information
The ankyrin repeat and SOCS box-containing (Asb) protein family is comprised of members which each contain “SOCS boxes” but differ from other families of protein in the motifs they contain upstream of the SOCS box. SOCS boxes are C-terminal regions of homology found in the suppressor of cytokine signaling family of proteins. The box region is thought to be the point of interaction between SOCS proteins and E3 ubiquitin ligases.

Product Description
Calcium specific chelator and indicator. Upon binding calcium there is a shift in the UV spectrum and an enhancement of fluorescence. QUIN 2 was a member of the first generation of Ca2+ chelators introduced by Tsien in 1980. These chelators have backbones similar to that of EGTA (ethylenglycol-bis(β-aminoethyl)-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid) and, like EGTA, they are able to chelate Ca2+ with high affinity and specifity. Moreover, these molecules contain aromatic rings that interact electronically and sterically with the chelating backbone. Thus chelation results in changes in the UV-absorbing and fluorescing properties of the molecules. The resulting spectral changes allow these substances to be used as very sensitive probes for Ca2+ ions, Ca2+ concentrations in single cells of various types can be measured for the first time! TPEN (Prod. No. ALX-450-011) can be used in conjunction with QUIN 2 to reduce heavy-metal quenching of QUIN 2 fluorescence in cells.
