Product Description
Unlike other methods of lipid peroxidation measurement that rely on decomposition products, such as malondialdehyde (Prod. No. ALX-280-018) and 4-hydroxynonenal (Prod. No. ALX-270-245), this new assay features direct measurement of lipid hydroperoxides via a redox reaction. Any sample containing lipid hydroperoxide can be easily and reliably quantified spectrophotometrically using either glass or quartz cuvettes (λmax: 500nm; ε: 16,667M-1cm-1).

Product Description
The sensitivity of measuring thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) has made this assay the method of choice for screening and monitoring lipid peroxidation, which is a major indication of oxidative stress. Malondialdehyde (MDA) forms a 1:2 adduct with thiobarbituric acid; the adduct can be measured by fluorometry. Biological specimens contain a mixture of TBARS, including lipid hydroperoxides and aldehydes. In practice, TBARS are expressed in equivalent numbers to MDA.

(E)-4-Hydroxynonenal (HNE) is one of the most important breakdown products and reliable marker of lipid peroxidation (LPO). This indirect enzyme immunoassay (EIA) allows for the first time the quantitative determination of HNE-histidine conjugates from lysates of human cells which were exposed to mild oxidative stress.
